Faith and Light
Faith and Light communities are made up of persons with an intellectual disability, their families and friends, particularly young friends, who meet together on a regular basis in a Christian spirit, to share friendship, pray together, and celebrate. They are a good place for families to find mutual support and for their young people with disabilities to form friendships.
Faith and Light - Mary, Vanessa and Jaclyn
Mary describes Faith and Light, a organization started by Jean Vanier and Marie-Helene Matthieu for families who have a member with an intellectual disabilty and their friends. Faith and Light has many groups across Canada. Jaclyn and Vanessa talk about their experience of being in a Faith and Light group.
Download TranscriptThere are thousands of small Faith and Light groups around the world. Probably the best way to find out if there is a Faith and Light group near you is to call local churches. Also the office of the Catholic Diocese may have information. (Faith and Light has Catholic roots but is open to all denominations.)
If there is no group, you might consider starting a group with other families. Groups are usually small and do not have their own website.
