Friends Don’t Always Use Words

Friends don’t always use words. If you communicate nonverbally you still communicate. You can still have friends even if you find conversation difficult.

Remember! Communicating nonverbally does not mean you cannot be a good friend or have friends! You have a lot to offer!

Sometimes it might take people a bit longer to get to know you. You will probably have to be patient. BUT you can help them too. If possible, smile. This will help them to relax. If they are having trouble, get someone who knows you to help them. Learning to communicate together can make your friendship stronger. You can also do things together that do not require talking.

It is what is on the Inside that Counts!

Yasmin has a close friend that she made when they were in school. She says, “It doesn’t matter if a friends has a disability or not. It is what is on the inside that counts.
